Obituary for Joel Hayward

Joel Hayward
Dr. Joel Benjamin Hayward, 70, of Bella Vista, Arkansas, went to be with the Lord Saturday, January 6, 2018. Perseverance, hard work, and dedication were traits that defined Joel. He loved his family, loved the Lord, and had a true servant’s heart. A graveside Memorial Service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Swain Cemetery in Newton County. Bishop Max Whitfield will officiate the service. There family and friends will celebrate his life, his family, and his gift of being a Doctor of Chiropractic.

Dr. Hayward graduated from Mt. Vernon High School, Mt. Vernon, MO in 1966 and attended Drury and Missouri Southern colleges between 1966 to 1970 to get his undergraduate degree. Shortly after, he joined the Army and completed Basic Training at Ft. Lenard Wood, MO. His first duty station was Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX. Joel completed Basic Lab & Advanced Lab courses and, in late 1971, the Army moved him and his family to Hawaii, where he completed his undergraduate work from the University of Hawaii with a degree in Chemistry. In 1974, Dr. Hayward moved his family to St. Charles, MO to attend Logan College of Chiropractic. He graduated in 1978 and referred to this class as the “Great 78!” He stayed connected with his classmates by serving on the alumni board and writing multiple newsletters over a 25-year span.

In 1978, Joel started “Hayward Chiropractic” in his hometown of Mt. Vernon, MO. He moved his practice in 1984 to Springdale, AR. Dr. Hayward practiced for a total of 35 years until he retired in May of 2013. In those years, he provided gentle care with a true concern to health and wellness. Joel was a very skilled Chiropractor, giving credit to the Lord.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth (Liz) Ramsey Hayward (27 years together); brother John Hayward of Mt. Vernon, MO; sister Janet Hayward of Springfield, MO; his three children, son-Jason Hayward and his wife Angela of Springdale, AR; son-Jacob Hayward and his wife Michelle of Fayetteville, AR; daughter-Jessica Hayward Bryan and her husband Stewart of Greenwood, AR; 6 grandchildren: Noah and Rachel Hayward, Erika Hayward Phillips and Alex Hayward, and Benjamin and Joseph Bryan; and 1 great-grandchild Gavin Byers.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Logan College or to Wounded Warrior Foundation.
